Mohali (01 March, 07)
The Sikh Students Federation organized a Gurmat Camp at Gurudwara Sahib (Phase V) Mohali. This camp was organized at the district level from 28 February to 1st March, 2007. On the first day of the camp Prof. Devinder Singh Mohali addressed the youth the discussed the present situation of Sikhs in the Punjab and reasons behind it. He linked the debts of the farmers to introduction of Young (Modern) Technology in Agriculture of Punjab back in sixties of last century. He said no research or study about the likely effects of introduction of this technology on social fabric of Punjab was made, therefore today we see that farmers are in depression and they are committing suicides. Secondly, Punjab’s Agriculture has become an “Industrial Consumer” since the introduction of Young Technology in Agriculture of Punjab; due to this Farmers of Punjab are caught in heavy debts. After this there was question-answers session in which youth took special interest.
On the first session of Second day of the camp S. Karmjit Singh (Managing Editor of Hans Sarvar Weekly) shared his views with the youth attending the camp. He said if we study the history thoroughly then we find that after since Khalsa Raj of Maharaja Ranjit Singh there was lack of Political Awareness among Sikhs. Even if it was there it was not in organized for; due to this the efforts did not resulted in establishment of System (Political, Social or Economical etc.). He said in last century there was great awareness among Sikhs when Sant Jarnail Singh started the struggle to protect Sikh Identity in the Modern Indian state.
