  • Indian Nationalism is Nothing but Illusion - SSF
    (Patiala : 14 September 2007)

Indian majority is not ready to listen anything which rejects its’ mythical symbols but at the same time it is worth notable that it does not hesitate from rejecting existence of other Nations living in India. This discriminatory and unfair behavior of Indian majority community is the reason that other communities living in this area have started struggles to retain their identity. These views are expressed by S. Parmjeet Singh Gazi, President of Sikh Students Federation. He was commenting upon recent controversy over Hindu Mythical, Ram Setu Bridge.

Gazi said that Sikhs in no way can be regarded as a part of Hindus or any other community of the world. But the constitution adopted by Indian Majority says that Sikh along with Jains and Budhists are part of Hindus. Sikh have unique identity in the world and can not tolerate its’ rejection. In this situation there was no space left behind for Sikhs in India, except to start National Struggle.

SSF President further said that Indian Nationalism is just an illusion. India never existed as one nation throughout the history. Present structure of India came into existence after British Rule. It is maintained by use force and atrocities by majority and not with will of other nations. India is such a geographical area where several distinct nations with diverse culture, language, historical experiences and values still exist. Sikhs, Kashmiris, Nagas, Asamees etc. are struggling for their Nations’ rights in India. Majority community of India should recognize the existence and status of all these Nations so that conflicts can be avoided.
